Premjibhai Meghji Thakkar was a Lohana #Rajput from a village in Gondal in Gujarat. He had made his fortune in the fish business, but was ostracized from his vegetarian Hindu Lohana caste. To reclaim his caste and community, he even gave up his fish business but was not allowed back.
Premjibhai’s son Punjalal Thakkar was so angry with the humiliation his father suffered that he changed his and his four son’s religion and converted to #Islam and renamed himself as Poonjabhai Jinno.
