President Donald Trump has entered into war of words between his French and Turkish counterparts. Trump said President Macron’s remark that NATO was “brain dead” was ‘very, very nasty’ and ‘disrespectful’ for alliance of 29 countries.
Last month Macron made the comment that NATO is ‘brain dead” because Turkey refused to support NATO forces in Syria. Turkey President Erdogan responded, “Mr Macron please check your own brain death”.
Trump said “nobody needs NATO more than France” but may France leave NATO. He said he liked Turkey and Erdogan. Turkey is a very good member of NATO. Erdogan has right to explore for alternatives of F-35s if US fails to deliver same to Turkey.
Erdogan stressed for unconditional support from all 29 NATO’s member on terrorism to Turkey. He said NATO allies must be aware of attacks on Turkey’s soil from Syria and he will not be silent spectator. Turkey threatened to block NATO plan for Baltic countries in Syria.
