The Wall Street Journal reports that Russia’s military assault on Ukraine is the first major clash marking a new order in the international politics. Russia and China have built a partnership based on a shared interest in diminishing US power.
Russia ia a critical gas supplier to Europe while China is a manufacturing powerhouse with an expanding military. Beijing and Moscow now hold a stronger hand in confronting the West than during the cold War.
On Thursday, Saudi Arabia Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) said that the Kingdom is ready to exert all efforts to mediate between Russia and Ukraine.
Speaking during a phone call with Russian President Putin, MBS “clarified the Kingdom’s stated position” that leads to a political solution to end the crisis and achieves security and stability in the world.
MBS also said to Putin, the Kingdom is keen to maintain oil market stability in the world. He stressed the role of the OPEC+ agreement to maintain the oil market’s balance and stability. The two sides also discussed relations between their two countries and ways of enhancing them in various fields.
The crown prince also spoke to President Zelensky of Ukraine and affirmed the Kingdom’s support to de-escalating the crisis and its readiness to mediate for resolving the crisis politically.
MBS said to Zelensky that, out of humanitarian considerations, they will extend the visas of Ukrainian visitors, tourists and residents in the Kingdom for three more months, if expired.
